Choosing a dressing table

A dressing table, vanity or makeup table is a desk for the bedroom: a surface at sitting height, drawers for the things you use every morning, and a mirror in front of you with good light on your face. The pieces here are solid timber and painted dressing tables that arrive assembled, with and without a matching mirror, in widths that suit a main bedroom or a compact guest room.

With a mirror or without

A dressing table with mirror is the complete set: the mirror is sized to the table, sits at the right height when you are seated, and matches the timber or paint. Choose one if the wall behind is bare. A dressing table without a mirror lets you hang a larger wall mirror, a round or arched one, or use the table under a window where the natural light is best for makeup; it also doubles as a small desk or a console in a hallway.

Size, height and drawers

Most dressing tables are 100 to 140 cm wide and 75 to 78 cm high, the same as a desk, so a standard chair or stool fits underneath; check there is 60 cm of clear knee space between the drawers.
